Responsible for leading the preschool team, safeguarding children, ensuring excellent education and childcare, maintaining a safe and caring environment, taking a leading role in the development and monitoring of high-quality learning and teaching, and actively participating in the senior management team.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the nursery team in providing a friendly, caring, and relaxing environment for the development of children.
- Work collaboratively within the nursery team and as a member of the university community.
- Supervise staff, students, and voluntary workers, maintaining a proactive and professional team.
- Ensure adherence to daily routines and keep records up-to-date.
- Maintain staffing levels and arrange cover when needed.
- Plan and execute activities in line with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage and Early Learning Goals.
- Further develop ‘free flow’ play and ensure regular assessments and evaluations.
- Collaborate with parents and caregivers to develop independence, confidence, and well-being in children.
- Support staff development and work closely with other professionals.
- Communicate with parents and visitors in a calm, friendly, and efficient manner.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and fire procedures.
- Attend management meetings and organize parent/keyworker meetings and pre-school staff meetings.
- Keep informed about current issues and attend necessary training.
- Support the childcare services manager with opening and closing the nursery building.
- Assist the childcare services manager in managing and leading a diverse staff team.
Person Specification:
- Qualifications:
- QTS Early Years/Reception, NNEB, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent.
- Relevant First Aid Certificate.
- Experience/Knowledge:
- At least 2 years of experience working in a preschool or reception class environment.
- Understanding of and commitment to the implementation of equal opportunities.

Salary: £9.50–£10.42 per hour
